Captur: passenger space or a bigger boot?
Captur’s sliding rear bench lets you adjust the balance between passenger room and luggage space. Here is how to compare the figures and try it with your own kit.
At a glance
- Flexible cabin: the rear bench has up to 16cm of movement.
- Petrol or hybrid: boot capacity differs, even with the bench in the same position.
- The useful test: bring your usual passengers and largest luggage item.
Move the bench around your day
Slide the bench backwards when rear-passenger legroom matters most. Moving it forwards gives the boot more space and reduces the room behind the front seats.
Renault quotes up to 16cm of bench movement. It is useful flexibility for a car that might carry adults one day and extra luggage the next.
Set your driving position first, then check the rear seat. Adjust the bench with the car parked, following the handbook, and make sure it locks into position.
Compare the right boot figures
Renault publishes the following boot volumes for the petrol and E-Tech full-hybrid versions. Each pair uses the same seating position.
Petrol
- Bench backwards
- 484 litres
- Bench forwards
- 616 litres
E-Tech full hybrid
- Bench backwards
- 348 litres
- Bench forwards
- 480 litres
These are Renault’s published litre volumes, not its separate VDA block measurements. Figures are with the rear seatbacks upright.
Why the measuring method matters
You may see a different number in a specification table. Renault also supplies VDA figures, measured using standardised blocks.
With the bench forwards, the VDA equivalents are 536dm³ for petrol and 440dm³ for full hybrid. Keep the measuring method consistent when comparing another car.
The larger published petrol figure should not be used as the hybrid’s capacity. Ask for the figures for the engine and version you are considering.
Try your pushchair, cases or weekly load
Bring the largest item you regularly carry. Check whether it fits with the bench far enough back for the people who normally travel with you.
The rear backrest folds in a 1/3–2/3 split for larger loads. Test the opening and the shape of the space as well as the headline capacity.
Allow room to open the tailgate where you park. Renault’s dimensional illustration is a useful starting point; measuring your own parking space is better.
Find your family’s setting
Our Invicta Renault Bolton team can help you check a current Captur against the passenger and luggage space you need.
Confirm which engine and trim can be viewed before travelling. Once you have found the right fit, compare the current Renault offers for that specification.
