Which Renaults qualify for the grant?
The eligible electric models, the Renault 5 battery distinction and how the discount works.
At a glance
- £3,750 band: Renault 4, Renault 5 52kWh, Megane E-Tech electric and Scenic E-Tech electric.
- £1,500 band: Renault 5 with the 40kWh battery.
- No separate guest application: the retailer handles the grant on an eligible new car; confirm the exact quotation.
Renault 5 qualifies—but the battery changes the grant
The Electric Car Grant can reduce the purchase price of an eligible new electric Renault. The current official list puts Renault 5 with the 52kWh battery in the £3,750 band; the 40kWh version is in the £1,500 band. That distinction is easy to miss if you only search by model name.
Renault 4, Megane E-Tech electric and Scenic E-Tech electric also appear in the current £3,750 band. The grant is handled through the retailer, so you do not apply separately for it.

How to read your Renault quotation
Ask for the list price, options, government grant and final cash price to be shown clearly. Keep the grant separate from any Renault or retailer contribution, because they are different sources of support.
For Renault 4, the starting point is the exact trim and configuration you want. If a listing already shows a grant-adjusted price, do not subtract the grant again. That would make the comparison misleading.
The grant is not a monthly finance payment. If you are financing the car, compare the full agreement and total payable as well as the cash price.
Which electric Renault fits the job?
Eligibility is a helpful reason to look, not the only reason to choose. Renault 5 suits a guest looking for a compact electric hatchback; Renault 4 offers a different body style and loading layout. Megane and Scenic give you further electric choices within the Renault range.
Try the driving position and bring the items you normally carry. Then compare the exact battery, manufacturer WLTP range and charging specification with the journeys you make.
The grant does not turn a laboratory range into a real-world promise, and it does not mean the largest battery is automatically your best value. Your routine and charging access remain central to the decision.
Avoid three common grant misunderstandings
First: do not assume all Renault 5 batteries receive the same amount. The current 40kWh and 52kWh versions sit in different grant bands.
Second: this car grant is for eligible new fully electric cars, not Renault’s petrol or full-hybrid range, plug-in hybrids or ordinary used-car purchases.
Third: a date attached to a Renault finance promotion is not automatically the government grant’s end date. Ask our team to confirm eligibility and the current offer terms for the exact car before ordering.
