Which Duster hybrid is for you?
Manual or automatic? Front-wheel drive or 4x4? The current Dacia Duster range gives you three distinct ways to choose hybrid power.
Your quick guide
- Hybrid 155: full-hybrid power with an automatic gearbox for an easy everyday routine.
- Mild hybrid 140: a six-speed manual with electric assistance for the petrol engine.
- Hybrid 150 4x4: automatic transmission with an electric motor driving the rear axle. None of these needs plugging in.
Start with the roads you drive
For most buyers, the first Duster decision is simple: do you want to change gears yourself, or would you prefer an automatic? After that, think about whether you need four-wheel drive.
Dacia’s current UK engine line-up is hybrid 155, mild hybrid 140 and hybrid 150 4x4. They share the convenience of refuelling with petrol, but use their electric assistance differently.
That makes it worth choosing the powertrain before the trim. A manual that suits your driving, or an automatic that makes a busy commute easier, will matter every time you get in.
Engine names and specifications: Dacia UK’s current Duster engine guide. Older Dusters may have different engine names.
Hybrid 155: automatic convenience
The hybrid 155 combines petrol and electric power with a clutchless, multi-mode automatic gearbox. It can move on electric power alone when the battery charge and driving conditions allow.
That makes it a natural version to try if your week includes stop-start traffic, school runs and regular trips into town. There is no clutch pedal, and the car manages the balance between engine and motor.
It is also worth considering for a mixed week of urban and longer journeys. You retain normal petrol refuelling, without adding a charging stop to your routine.
Mild hybrid 140: keep the manual
The mild hybrid 140 pairs a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 48V electrical system and a six-speed manual gearbox. The electric assistance supports the engine, particularly when setting off and accelerating.
It suits drivers who enjoy a conventional manual and want to keep that familiar way of driving. On your test drive, try the clutch and gear change in traffic as well as on an open road.
The difference from hybrid 155 is more than the power figure: the mild hybrid uses electric assistance alongside the engine, while the full hybrid can also provide electric-only movement. Neither requires an external charger.

Hybrid 150 4x4: traction for different routes
If your journeys regularly involve rural tracks or other routes where extra traction matters, look at the hybrid 150 4x4. It combines a dual-clutch automatic gearbox with an electric motor at the rear axle to provide four-wheel drive.
This is a different layout from the front-wheel-drive hybrids. It gives you the option of automatic driving and 4x4 capability in the same Duster.
Tell the team how you will use the car. The right tyres, ground conditions and driving technique still matter, and should be part of that conversation.
