The aim of e-BOXER is not to turn a Subaru into a long-range electric car. It uses electric assistance at useful moments—moving away, supporting acceleration and recovering energy when slowing—while retaining the familiar petrol range and permanent all-wheel drive.

How does it charge?
The car’s control system recovers energy during deceleration and can also manage charging through the engine. There is no external charging socket, cable or home wallbox. The battery is much smaller than an EV battery, which is why e-BOXER electric-only movement is limited and automatic.
Does the hybrid change the all-wheel drive?
Current Crosstrek and Forester e-BOXER models retain permanent Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The motor sits within the drivetrain so its assistance can work with the four-wheel system. X-Mode provides additional control for low-grip situations, but suitable tyres and safe decisions remain essential.
Where does e-BOXER help most?
Energy recovery and electric assistance are most useful in changing-speed traffic. A long, constant high-speed journey offers fewer opportunities to recover energy. Official economy is a comparison tool; temperature, route, tyres, load and driving style decide the result an owner sees.
